Consumer Services
General questions from our consumer clients

obt.Instant is our remote support service. Using a secure, simple tool called GoToAssist, an OBT support specialist will connect to your computer (with your approval, of course!) and begin the support session. Our specialist will take control of your desktop and can work exactly as if they were sitting at your desk. You can observe the support session and even take back mouse and keyboard control, if necessary.

The obt.Guardian service is a subscription-based monthly maintenance program. Each month, at a scheduled appointment time, an OBT support technician will login to your machine and perform general diagnostics, a routine system cleanup, and the removal of any virus, malware or adware infection. In addition, we'll audit your machine performance and provide you with a report card that gives you all the important details for your maintenance routine and any suggestions we may have.

Each month, you'll also receive one free support call for a non-maintenance related support problem.

It's a rare situation that we're simply stumped. Some computer problems may require more than one call to fix, as many problems are solved by a trial-and-error method of troubleshooting, but on the limited occasions that we're unable to diagnose your problem, you'll be refunded in full and given any further recommendations we may have.

Monthly Maintenance
Monthly maintenance-related information for business clients

Once a month, OBT technicians will make a visit to your office to make sure things are running properly.

During this visit, we'll take time with each of your machines to ensure they are operating at their best. OBT will run diagnostics, clean things up, and make sure your systems are clean of Malware, Spyware, and Adware. We keep track of all your software and their expiration dates, and will inform you when it is time to renew your various subscriptions. We will place the order and renew them for you, saving you the headache of dealing with software vendors directly.

The various utilities that OBT uses can be very dangerous if not used properly. Improper use can (and often does) result in data loss. Sometimes the lost data cannot be recovered, forcing you to lose man hours and possibly incur more support costs to correct the issue (if possible).
Web Services

Design
Questions about OBT Web Design.

The design process is meant to be organic. To begin with, our in-house designer will spend time interviewing you and learning about your business. Then, you'll work together to come up with some basic ideas for the site, including overall look and feel, features, content, and so on. After this initial planning phase is complete, it's to the drawing board. Within about 7 to 10 days (or sooner, if your project has a shorter time frame,) you'll receive access to the initial site build. At this time, you'll evaluate the site and make a list of changes and requests.

Email
Questions pertaining to OBT hosted email
Currently OBT does not limit the number of accounts you can have, but we do limit the amount of disk space used by all your accounts. Currently these restrictions are around 10GB of disk space, so unless you have a habit of zipping and emailing entire DVDs to coworkers, you should never see this limit in actual practice. Keep in mind that email is a SIMPLE service, so large attachments (over 20MB) should be sent by other methods, such as CD, DVD, flash drive, or an OBT File Repository (ask your OBT Account Representative about this service!)

Use these settings to configure your email account using Outlook, Thunderbird, Eudora, Apple Mail.app, etc. If you have problems, as always, please contact OBT Support.

Mail Account/Server Type: IMAP (required for proper syncing to your various devices)
Incoming Mail Server: mail.your-domain.com
Outgoing Mail Server: mail.your-domain.com
Outgoing Server Authentication: "Password" or "Plain Text Password"
Outgoing Server Username: your.username@your-domain.com
Mail Username: your.username@your-domain.com (i.e. brent@openbusinesstech.com)

Different mobile devices access email differently. The iPhone, for instance, can be configured simply by using standard mail settings in the "Mail, Contacts, and Calendars" section of your iPhone's "Settings" application. Blackberry phones, however, require you to first setup your email account with the Blackberry Information Services (BIS) website. You will need to contact your Cell Provider for information on using their data network with email services.

OBT wants to ensure that you can access your email from anywhere, be it mobile device, office computer, or a laptop in a hotel room. In the event you are using a temporary computer that does not have email software installed or configured, feel free to use OBT WebMail to send, receive, and manage your email.

OBT WebMail is accessible via:

http://webmail.your-domain.com/ (i.e. http://webmail.openbusinesstech.com/)

Simply login with your email address (you@your-domain.com) and password and you're ready to go!

Hosting
Questions relating to OBT Web Hosting services.

All OBT hosting packages are custom design based on the needs of each client. A basic business-flyer website and a fully secured e-commerce site do not have the same hosting requirements. All packages do include the following:

Cloud-based hosting
Custom bandwidth and space quotas
IMAP and POP Email access
Control panel access
FTP
Domain registration and setup

OBT's cloud servers can handle almost all hosting needs. We offer Windows or Linux-based sites and can add secure certificates, databases and any number of tools you need at your disposable. All costs are determined by services needed.

General Computing
General computing questions from both business and consumer clients
Backups are just as valuable as the original data, though are seldom viewed as such until needed. If you complete work on your computer daily, you should backup daily. If your computers are backed up to a local device, it is also important to periodically transfer backups to an off-site location for maximum data protection. How and what your computer actually backs up is determined by your backup software. This can range from individually selected files and directories to complete disk images.

The tech market is flooded with newer and better and shinier technology every day, so much so that it can be almost impossible to keep up. OBT offers free chat services, which are a great way to ask about which tools are right for you. If you'd like a more in-depth shopping experience, we offer a low-cost consulting solution for both businesses and consumers that is designed to make any buying decision easier on your and your pocketbook.

But, since you're asking....

OBT uses a fairly robust trouble ticketing system called ZenDesk to keep track of your issues, on-going related tasks, status reports, problem ownership, and solutions.

For immediate responses, the OBT Support Line is your best bet. This support line is designed to ring the first available technician, no matter where they are or what they are doing. Phone support is available 8:00am to 6:00pm Central, Monday through Friday.

In early 2011, OBT moved from privately hosted, local servers to a cloud-based hosting platform. In short, rather than having one server assigned to email, one to web hosting, one for document storage and so on, our services now reside across multiple servers in multiple states, which each server sharing the load of our various offerings. This allows for a near 24/7 uptime of all OBT services, regardless of the status of an individual server. Cloud services are more reliable, more secure and an excellent solution for businesses of all sizes.
